Ed van der Elsken: Tokyo Symphony.

Ed van der Elsken's 'Tokyo Symphony' is an important piece of work which Van der Elsken was not able to finish due to his untimely death. The installation is recently finished based on 6.5 hours of audio recordings, personal notes and 1600 unpublished slides. Tokyo Symphony is a personal impression in image and sound of the overwhelming city of Tokyo by world renown photographer van der Elsken and is now being exhibited at the Dutch Photography Museum in Rotterdam.

As a street photographer and photo book editor Ed van der Elsken has received worldwide recognition. His work is often mentioned along with international photo icons as William Klein and Robert Frank. Although his biography and influence is partially researched, Van der Elsken´s relation towards Japan has neither been seriously recognized nor revealed.
